2026 Baptiste Pike Derby Results
What an absolutely spectacular day we had for the 6th Annual Pike Derby! The weather was beautiful, and we had a completely full field with 77 boats and 195 anglers out on the water.
Thanks to incredible efforts, the tournament numbers were staggering: 334 pike were caught, totaling 529 lbs of fish weighed in! An impressive 60% of all boats returned to the dock with fish. This year, we also introduced our new Top Angler category (weighing 6 or less fish), and it was a huge hit, with 39% of the field declaring to compete for it.
We are also thrilled to announce that the proceeds of the event were approximately $3,200! These funds will be shared by the Baptiste Lake Association and the North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery to support our ongoing community and conservation efforts.

π Feeding the Needy in Our Community
We expanded our Fish Cleaning area this year, and under the leadership of Kevin Vance, a team of 7 experienced filleters stepped up alongside others who were trained right at the event to clean all donated fish.
A special shout-out goes to Paul Gosluszny, who assisted in cleaning and transporting hundreds of processed fish to be smoked. Paul and his wife will be finishing the cleaning process and smoking the fish this coming week, which will then be distributed directly to the needy and homeless in the Bancroft area.
π A Shared Achievement
Look at what we accomplished together as a community this weekend:
Environmental Stewardship: Safely reducing the pike population in Baptiste Lake to help bring our fish species back into a healthy balance.
Community Spirit: Hosting a lively, rewarding competition and a festive afternoon celebration for friends and families.
Helping Others: Directly feeding those in need in our local community.
None of this could have happened without our 30+ incredible volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this day run smoothly. Thank you for making this event so special.
πΈ Share Your Memories!
We want to see the day through your eyes! We have set up a shared photo album for the community. Please click the link below to view the pictures and upload any of your own photos from the water, the dock, or the weigh-in:

Lake Regatta 2025 β A Splashing Success!
A huge thank you to our generous hosts, Camp Ponacka, and our wonderful sponsors: No Frills, Kawartha Dairy, and Black Creek Livestock. Your support made this event possible and helped bring the community together in such a meaningful way.
πββοΈ Swim Races kicked off the day with a splash β literally! Participants of all ages dove in with enthusiasm, showing off their strokes and cheering each other on.
π£ββοΈ The Canoe Races were a highlight, with crowd favorites like the Multi-Generation Relay, the hilarious Crab Race, and the competitive Team Canoe Timed Trial.
π In a thrilling turn of events, the Cottagers reclaimed victory in the Team Canoe Race, against the 16-year-old CIT campers from Camp Ponacka. The friendly rivalry lives on! The winners of the Team Canoe Race were: Craig Creighton, Sarah Ladner, John Wootton, Matthias Lamm, Gary Tran, Christina Pilz, Adriano Sobretodo Jr, Mary Galic, Mark Lamm, Jordan Hume, Osa Campbell, and Mitch Morawetz.
It was heartwarming to see so many families enjoying the day together β from toddlers splashing at the shoreline to kids, parents and grandparents swimming, canoeing and cheering from the docks. The Regatta reminded us all why we love this lake and the community that surrounds it.
Weβre already looking forward to next year. Until then, thank you to everyone who made this day so special!

Proceeds from this yearβs derby will benefit two incredible partners:
β’ The Baptiste Lake Association (BLA)
β’ The North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery
With Ticket Sales, individual donations, and sponsor donations we brought in $5,180! After paying out prize money and some minor expenses we will be netting $2,937. Thank you for supporting our efforts!
This yearβs funds are going toward a $6,000+ investment in an underwater drone system. This isnβt just cool tech β itβs a vital tool to map the lake bottom, monitor fish spawning beds, and assess lake health. BLA is leading the project, and the Hatchery will help train users and keep it running smoothly. Best of all, this technology will help protect not only Baptiste Lake but also nearby lakes, supporting the health of our entire regionβs ecosystem.
A huge THANK YOU to every one of you who made the day so special. Whether you hauled in a trophy fish or simply enjoyed a day on the water, you were part of something important. The community spirit was fantastic.
